Artistic Statement
Introducing Laura, a bun out of the oven, much like you, who is trying to make sense of this
world we live in. I am the bread; therefore, my illustrations and poems are the trail of
breadcrumbs. If you are in search or have lost your way. Follow me. And if you are a pigeon,
there are enough breadcrumbs for everybody. Bon appétit. There are three steps to the art I
make. One is to listen and observe.
Being a birdwatcher if birds were people. Two is to think
and feel. Humans are my inspiration: the fleeting moments they have that are led by love,
grief, joy, anger, pride and the many unspoken feelings.
Three is to create and connect.
Where emotion and observation meet. My art is not about decoration; it is a bridge, each
crumb of bread leading you closer to something shared and human. Sometimes my work
asks questions rather than giving answers. Sometimes it offers solace or laughter. Often, it
simply says, 'I see you.' In that moment, we are no longer strangers walking separate paths.
My illustrations might spring from my own experiences, but they aim to resonate beyond me.
My poems often begin as whispers to myself, yet I hope they echo in others. In a world that
often feels fragmented, I want my art to be a small act of gathering, of bringing together
pieces of thought, feeling, and humanity. The breadcrumbs I leave behind are not a straight
line; they meander, loop and sometimes get scattered by the wind. But they always lead
somewhere worth arriving.
